...Not my major 20th piece, but a 20th piece. It was something that stemmed from waiting around at work one evening, so I drew this!
It was fun drawing these two together! (It's not the first time. There's a major piece coming up!); I've been a fan for 20 years now, and the blue blur and SEGA have been a major part of my life (In more ways than one!) ever since I was six years old. He's given me many years of happiness and ultimately, a career that's going places. I kept it simple though, just wanted something illustration-like.
I decided that I'd colour this up and give it to you guys because I have to go away from a while. I will be keeping my head down and getting on with commissions, but I do have to away from here for... Reasons I cannot disclose at the moment. So with this, thank you for all your support. Take care and enjoy the picture!
(Also going to make a point to mention: Yes, Classic Sonic is paying a small tribute to Sonic CD by semi-mimmicking the glove-pulling pose he pulled in one of the promotional pieces done for the game. I've always loved it, and I wanted to tip my hat to it without directly ripping it off!)
[EDIT: 26.07.11]Very minor print amendments were applied to this image (A little bit of quality control!) as I am working to get this ready for print (same size as previous posters) really soon! You can all enjoy this image now at a slightly larger size, too!

This is really beautiful and mind-blowing! I really am in love with this! The two Sonics' poses and expressions are just really dynamic and phenomenal! I really love the outlines, the colouring, the shadings and highlights, the effects, the tiny details and the background! Just really perfect, magnificent, outstanding, way past cool, out-of-this-world, accurate and professional! I REALLY want to applaud you until my hands go all red and sore!
I only just got back from a holiday to Canada and the United States and given myself some time out to appreciate the Sonic fan art galleries on DA. Seriously Syaming, you are one of the top Sonic fanart perfectionists of all time, this is beautiful at it's simplest of elements. Love the colours and the method of presentation used here!
Also I can't help notice your ambitious project of drawing every single Sonic 'game titled' character in a profile presentation style! I actually went to Comic Con a month ago - caught up with the team at Sonic Archie (awesome bunch of people those guys) and was inspired to do something very similar but with Sonic Archie characters.
I hope you don't mind it if I do something along those lines of profile shot style of the Sonic cast from Archie universe. Anyways hope all is well back home for ya! Keep up the talented stuff mate, I'm going to fav that drawing of Silver that you did too cuz that simply rocked my socks off.
This is a nice piece that certainly shows true the passion you hold for the blue one and the presentation of your abilities as an artistic illustrator. What's nice about this piece is the presentation of both rendition of Sonic in past and present, but more so to see them in your own approach than simple cloning from offical sources. In particular is your rendition of classic sonic since it's rare to see one to approach the more podgy portrayal of the character. What you've done is good, you show a good eye for the design and keeping that simplistic appeal found in the old design, but more so how it contains the charm found back in the 90's. Perhaps what makes that work is the approach of using cell shading which allows for the outline of each shape to become profound and defined which in turns makes it work so well. Though of course on the down side the cell shading in turn does make him appear rather flat and in some areas more a cut out, though not a terrible thing as it can be old designs and to try and give it a new coat of paint can be tricky. Two areas in particular to mention are the belly and right foot since to me these two just come across rather weak compared to the other areas. Again, this can be how cell shading can be against particular shapes or how you angle the lighting upon the shape in question. Never the less, the old sonic holds charm and in a more nicer light you've been able to bring across the body language well by the gestures of his hands and facial expression.
Modern Sonic is, as well, present with just the same beauty and charm to which you know well. The way you've presented his aura through his body language is nice with a simple expression to add the extra level of grace to your rendition. Shading is nicely approach and gives him a more 3d like appeal and while perhaps some different choices on how the shading would appear on his body from another's point of view you have, never the less, shown your strength in how well you know the characters and can reflect so much in such a clean and tamed manner.
In this instance, the lineart here was done via Tablet and Paint Tool SAI (no vectors, just brushed in by hand); My inking varies. I tend to jump between Copic Multiliners and digital when the mood takes me. :3
