I am months late with this, but things have been ridiculously busy as of late, and as with everything I have had to be working on it in dribs and drabs. -- As some of you might know, I have moved from London to Sheffield as I am working with SUMO Studios at the moment on a particular title. This has left no time for anything, but I should be done pretty soon!
This is this year's birthday picture for Sonic. It started out as a crappy sketch some months ago, and I wanted something to come of it- something that represented Sonic through the years, as well as combining two of my favourite elements from the series- the art, and the music!
I wanted to represent a Dreamcast Sonic in there, so the only feasible choice I found was Sonic Adventure 2 Sonic. THOSE SHOES! I had to represent them somehow. I used to draw him in those a lot when I was younger. (Hence Sonic Adventure 2's date, in case some of the pedantic amongst you were wondering!)
Anyway, lots of different things tried in here, alongside fractals, playing with some more airbrushing techs (don't worry, I didn't forget how!) And... Yeah. Just enjoy. I put a fair amount of work into this, and I rather enjoyed making it. I so hope you enjoy viewing it. ♥
Especially as it may very well be one of my last few pieces. More news on that as it arrives, though.
[EDIT: 26.08.12] Just as a forward notice: I will no longer be posting sketches or WIPs on deviantART, and will be moving towards posting completed works here, if at all. All such work will be being posted to my Blog @ Tumblr from here on in. Thank you! ♥
After being in my mystical cave for so long, I've decided to drop by, only to realise that I have yet to comment on this o__o
But bloody hell, I definitely have to say that this is your best installment of Sonic so far. As to why you're not a commercial artist for Sonic TEAM, I don't know why... I have always (still am~!) been a big fan of your artwork, you go as far as making his shoes look so polished (I never bother when it comes to the shoes, I'm usually satisfied after getting the upper body details done and then I go downhill after that LOL)
I've noticed that this is done in your old fashion style of airbrushing, feels nostalgic somehow to your refined & unique cel-shading technique but both styles are equally excellent!
I DO however, have one slight critique. It's nothing really since I'm sure you didn't intend (and probably didn't care so feel free to ignore the next few sentences xD) But I can't help notice the gradient of the fractals. Awesome as they may be. For me, I probably would have made the gradient more 'transcending' rather than blending into the blue after classic Sonic. If you look at the gradient from afar, the magenta is only one third of the fractal path.
Ignore that paragraph, I figured that you don't need such a put down after all that hard work you've poured into this.
